## Questions

### Meridian

**What is Meridian?**
Meridian is the platform to host, bill and grow Shopify apps. It hosts your app (environments, deploys, a managed database, logs and vulnerability scans) and adds the tools Shopify apps otherwise stitch together: managed pricing plans and usage billing, CRM, segments, automations, email, affiliates, discounts and App Store analytics. It is priced per app, with hosting included.

**Who is Meridian for?**
Developers, agencies and teams that build Shopify apps, from a single public app on the App Store to an agency running custom apps for many clients from one organization.

**Is there a free trial?**
Yes. New organizations can start on Lite with a 14-day free trial for one app. No card is needed.

**We used Mantle. Can we move to Meridian?**
Yes. Meridian brings plans and billing, CRM, revenue analytics, email, automations and affiliates together with hosting, in one place. Customer Account Blocks moved its app to Meridian in four days after Mantle shut down, with our team's help. Migration services are included on Enterprise, and the team helps on every plan as much as it can. Talk to us to plan yours.

**What can Meridian MCP do that a hosting MCP can't?**
It knows your app's Shopify side, not only its servers. Your agent reads the plan catalog and feature keys before writing isEnabled() and track() calls, checks why a shop has a feature, sees which webhooks are routed and how each delivery went, and lists the Shopify API alerts matched to your code. It also deploys, rolls back and reads logs.

### Grow

**Do merchants have to approve their subscription again when we move?**
No. Your merchants' subscriptions live in Shopify, and they keep running when you move. Meridian reads them from the Shopify Partner API, so current plans and billing history show up in Meridian without any merchant approving again.

**Does Meridian work with Shopify App Pricing?**
Meridian's Plan Builder replaces it. Shopify offers two ways to charge merchants: Shopify App Pricing, where you set plans in Shopify and it hosts the plan page, and manual pricing through the Billing API. Plan Builder runs on manual pricing, so your plans, trials, discounts, usage charges and feature gates are all managed in Meridian.

**Why does Plan Builder use Shopify's Billing API?**
By choice. Shopify App Pricing is young and less flexible: no feature gates in your code, and a plan page Shopify hosts and you cannot change. Plan Builder adds no-code plans, gating, usage analytics and caps, and pricing and account pages inside your app, where you can add reassurance and reviews.

**Can I use Meridian if my app is hosted somewhere else?**
Yes, for most of it. A self-hosted app keeps feature gating, the CRM, segments, automations, emails, affiliates, the App Store tools and the webhook pipeline, and Meridian still sees the subscriptions it bills itself. Charging merchants through Plan Builder needs Meridian hosting: creating a Shopify charge uses the shop's offline token, which lives in your app's own database.

**Which events can start an automation?**
23 built-in triggers: installs, uninstalls and reinstalls, subscription activated, cancelled, frozen, declined or upgraded, trial ending and ended, usage thresholds, custom fields and your own events. Starter templates cover install welcome, trial reminders, billing recovery and uninstall win-back.

**Am I locked in to Meridian?**
No. Your code stays in your own GitHub repository and runs as a standard container on Google Cloud Run. Any database backup downloads as a standard SQL dump, even while a payment is overdue, and you can export everything your organization holds at any time. If you cancel an app, its data is exported and emailed to the owners before anything is deleted.

### App Store

**How often are keyword rankings updated?**
Once a day. For each keyword you track, Meridian snapshots the top 120 organic results: your position, its change over a day and a week, your best position and the apps above you. Paid placements are shown beside the results and never counted in a position.

**Can I see competitors and category rankings?**
Yes. Market Intel indexes every published Shopify App Store listing, re-crawled daily: category leaderboards day by day, with their history, and an explorer to research any app with its ranking history and reviews.

**What does Meridian do with my reviews?**
Link your App Store listing and each review shows on the CRM profile of the store that left it, next to its plan and revenue, whenever Meridian can match the store. You answer knowing who the merchant is.

**Do I need to host my app on Meridian?**
No. The App Store tools work for any public app with a linked listing, wherever it is hosted.

### Plan Builder

**What does Plan Builder add over Shopify App Pricing?**
Your code can read what each plan includes: feature gates by key, on or off or with a numeric limit. You also get discounts by code or automatic, a pricing page and an account page rendered by the SDK, and usage events with an included quantity, an overage rate and a spending cap. Merchants are still charged through Shopify Billing.

**Does Meridian take a cut of what I charge merchants?**
No. Meridian takes no fee or revenue share on the charges you bill through Plan Builder. Merchants pay through Shopify Billing, so Shopify's own revenue share applies as usual, and Meridian is paid only by your plan.

### Shopify API alerts

**How does Meridian handle Shopify API version upgrades?**
Meridian watches the Shopify Admin API version each app pins and the API version of each extension, and reads Shopify's changelog for breaking changes, deprecations and required actions. When a change affects your app, it scans your connected GitHub repository, shows the file and line it affects, and suggests a fix, with Shopify's migration deadline. It works for apps hosted elsewhere too.

**How is this different from Shopify's API health report?**
Shopify reports deprecated calls once merchants trigger them, without showing where they are in your code. Meridian scans your repository, including branches before you merge them, so you see the file and line affected and a suggested fix before any merchant hits it. It also covers each extension's API version, and emails you when it finds something.

**Can't I just validate my GraphQL in CI?**
Keep it, it helps. A schema check only sees deprecated fields in your queries. Meridian also reads Shopify's changelog for required actions that are not schema deprecations, tracks each pinned Admin API and extension version, flags unstable versions in production, and suggests a fix. There is no pipeline to set up per app: connect the repository once.

**Does it work if my app isn't hosted on Meridian?**
Yes. Shopify API alerts work for any app with a connected GitHub repository, wherever it runs. Hosting on Meridian is not required.

**Which plans include Shopify API alerts?**
Every plan, Lite included, at no extra cost. Each app you connect gets its own alerts.

### Mantle alternatives for Shopify apps, job by job

**Is Mantle still running?**
No. Mantle announced on 16 June 2026 that it was winding down completely. Most of its services stopped on 14 August 2026, and Mantle Billing on 30 September 2026. Mantle said it keeps data for 30 days after each end date, then deletes it.

**What did Mantle recommend instead of Mantle Billing?**
Shopify App Pricing, with Shopify's Billing API as a back-up. App Pricing has been the default for new public apps since May 2026: recurring and usage plans on a plan page Shopify hosts, but no one-time charges, no usage caps and prices in USD only.

**What replaced SASI?**
SASI, the Shopify App Store Index, shut down with Mantle. Mantle pointed its users to Fusion Metrics and App Store Pulse, and Letsmetrix and AppJubilee also track keyword rankings. Meridian tracks rankings and reviews next to billing and the CRM, for any public app, wherever it is hosted.

### About

**Has anyone outside Meridian written about it?**
SaaS Hub, Shopify App Founders Edition (issue #41) and The App Collective newsletter have featured Meridian, and watchfor.tools lists it in its community-rated directory of tools for Shopify app builders. Customers include Starship Security, and Customer Account Blocks, which moved its app to Meridian in four days.

**Who operates Meridian?**
MERIDIAN AUTOMATION LTD, registered in Israel (128 Derech HaHagana, Tel Aviv-Yafo 6742289, Israel). Apps run on Google Cloud in the EU by default.

### Hosting

**Can I host the standard Shopify app template on Meridian?**
Yes. Meridian builds and runs the app in your own GitHub repository, including Shopify's React Router app template (formerly Remix) with Prisma. Point Prisma at the managed MySQL database and push. Migrations run once per deploy as a release command, before traffic moves to the new version.

**Which database does Meridian provide?**
A managed MySQL database for each environment, with the connection injected into your app automatically. PostgreSQL is coming. Production is backed up daily and backups are kept 7 days on Lite, 30 on Pro.

**Do developers get their own database for local work?**
Yes. Each developer gets a personal database for local work, started with the Meridian CLI (meridian dev) and never shared with a teammate. It is separate from the app's Development and Production databases, so local work never touches either.

**What happens to webhooks if my app is down or busy?**
Shopify sends your app's webhooks to Google Cloud Pub/Sub, not straight to your app. Meridian forwards each one, signed with your app's own secret. If your app times out or answers a 5xx or 429, Meridian tries twice more, 10 and then 30 seconds apart. Every delivery shows in a live log.

**Can I have a staging environment on Lite or Pro?**
Yes. Use the Development environment as staging: it has its own URL, secrets and database, so you can connect it to a separate staging Shopify app. Builds move to Production without being rebuilt. Enterprise adds a dedicated Staging step between the two.

**How do rollbacks work?**
A rollback switches all traffic back to a previous successful deployment instantly, with no rebuild. It reverts code and configuration, not the database, so migrations run once per deploy as a release step and production is backed up daily, and any backup can be restored.

**What does Meridian handle that a general host leaves to me?**
On a general host you get a server and assemble the rest. With Meridian it comes with every app: Shopify webhooks delivered over Google Cloud Pub/Sub, with per-shop subscriptions kept in sync as stores install and uninstall, failed deliveries retried and a live delivery log. A managed database with daily backups and migrations run on each deploy. Logs and resource usage. Alerts when a Shopify API version or breaking change affects your code. A vulnerability scan after each production deploy. Development and Production environments with PR previews, secrets in Google Secret Manager, and autoscaling. So when you compare prices, compare the whole list, not only the server.

**Where is my app hosted?**
On Google Cloud, in the EU (Belgium) by default, on every plan. On Enterprise you choose the EU or the US for each environment.

**Which environments do I get?**
Production and Development on every plan, each with its own URL, configuration, secrets and database. Enterprise adds Staging. Pull requests get their own preview deployments, and a build is promoted from one environment to the next without being rebuilt.

**What happens when my app gets a traffic spike?**
It scales with demand on Cloud Run, between zero and your plan's instance limit: 1 on Lite, 2 on Pro, 4 with the Medium hosting size ($79 / app / month) and 8 with Large ($199 / app / month).

### Build

**Can I build and deploy a Shopify app from Claude, Cursor or another AI agent?**
Yes. The Meridian MCP server connects Cursor, Claude Code or Claude Desktop to your apps. The agent reads your real plan catalog, deployments and runtime logs, and can deploy or roll back, with exactly the permissions you have in the dashboard. Lite includes 1,000 MCP requests a month, Pro and Enterprise are unlimited.

**Does Meridian MCP replace Shopify's Dev MCP?**
No, use both. Shopify's Dev MCP knows Shopify's APIs and documentation, so your agent writes correct Shopify code. Meridian MCP knows your app: its plans, webhooks, API alerts, deployments and logs. Add both to Cursor, Claude Code or Claude Desktop.

**How do I add pricing plans, feature gates and usage billing to my app?**
Define plans and metered events in the Plan Builder, then gate features with isEnabled() and record usage with track() from the Meridian SDK. Meridian meters the usage and bills it with the plan.

### Agencies

**Can an agency manage many client apps in one place?**
Yes. One organization holds every client app. Each app is priced on its own and everything lands on one invoice, broken down by app. Roles decide what each teammate, freelancer or client can see and do, app by app.

**Can I limit a freelancer or a client to one app?**
Yes. Build custom roles from Meridian's permission list, for the whole organization or app by app. A role limited to some apps shows those apps and nothing else, and no one can grant a permission they don't hold themselves.

**Does Meridian work for custom apps built for a single client?**
Yes, at the same per-app price as a public app, on every plan. A custom app gets the whole platform side: hosting with autoscaling and add-ons, Production and Development environments with builds promoted between them, a managed database with local development databases and daily backups (and external access on Pro and Enterprise), a secrets manager, Shopify webhooks over Pub/Sub, deploys from GitHub with PR previews, a vulnerability scan on every production deploy, a generated domain and your own custom domain, Shopify API alerts, Meridian MCP, roles and collaborators, two-factor sign-in and full data export. The merchant tools (pricing plans and usage billing, CRM and analytics, automations, merchant emails, discounts, affiliates and App Store listing tracking) are for public apps, and you can switch an app's type later without losing data.

**Is there volume pricing for agencies with many client apps?**
Yes. Agencies running many client apps get a custom quote on Enterprise, which also adds Staging, SSO and audit logs, regional hosting in the EU or the US, migration help and a dedicated success manager. Talk to sales.

**What does Meridian handle that a general host would leave to us?**

**How do we keep client apps current with Shopify API versions?**

**Where is our clients' data stored?**
On Google Cloud, in the EU (Belgium) by default, on every plan. On Enterprise you choose the EU or the US for each environment.

**Are we locked in if a client wants to leave?**

### Pricing

**How is Meridian priced?**
Per app, per month, with hosting included: Lite $69 and Pro $169 / app / month, Enterprise on a custom quote. Every plan includes the whole platform; plans differ in limits, and Enterprise adds SSO, audit logs, Staging, regional hosting and dedicated support. A busy app can move up to the Medium ($79) or Large ($199) hosting size without changing plan. Prices are in USD, excluding tax.

**Why is Meridian priced per app?**
So each app carries exactly what it needs. Allowances are per app, so one busy client app never eats into another's, and adding an app never changes what the others cost. The price covers the ops layer you would otherwise assemble and maintain yourself: database, backups, environments, monitoring and Shopify API upgrades.

**Will my bill go up if my app gets busy?**
No. Each plan is a fixed price per app and Meridian never bills overages. If an app reaches its monthly bandwidth allowance, owners are emailed at 90%, 95% and 100%, and the app keeps serving on one smaller instance until the month resets. To give it more room, move that one app up a hosting size.

**What does every Meridian app get?**
Its own service on Google Cloud Run that scales with traffic, a managed database for each environment with daily production backups, Development and Production with PR previews and instant rollbacks, Shopify webhooks over Pub/Sub, a vulnerability scan on each production deploy, Shopify API alerts, and hosting in the EU by default.

**Do custom (private) apps cost the same as public apps?**

**Is there volume pricing for agencies?**
Yes. Agencies running many client apps get a custom quote on Enterprise, which also adds Staging, SSO and audit logs, regional hosting in the EU or the US, migration help and a dedicated success manager. Talk to sales.

**What does unlimited mean?**
We do not meter it in normal product usage. Fair-use ceilings apply.

**What happens when an app reaches its webhook allowance?**
Nothing is dropped. Shopify webhooks keep arriving and are held, then delivered in order as soon as the allowance resets or the app moves to a bigger plan. A delivery still held after 30 days is discarded. Lite includes 1,000 Pub/Sub requests a month; Pro and Enterprise are not metered.

### Meridian vs Gadget

**Is Meridian an alternative to Gadget?**
Yes, for teams that want to keep their app as standard code in their own repository. Gadget is a framework that runs your app in its cloud. Meridian hosts the app you already have, such as Shopify's React Router template, and adds plans and billing, CRM, email and App Store tools.

**Which costs less, Meridian or Gadget?**
It depends on your team and apps. Gadget's per-account pricing costs less for many small apps run by up to 10 people. For one growing app with a team of 15, Meridian Pro is $169 a month and Gadget Premium comes to $370, because Gadget Pro stops at 10 seats.

### Meridian vs Render

**Is Meridian cheaper than Render?**
Not for hosting alone. One app with production and staging is about $51 a month on Render and $69 on Meridian Lite. The difference covers the work a general host leaves to you: staging, daily backups, webhook queueing over Pub/Sub, Shopify API upgrade alerts and vulnerability scans, with no overage bills. Plans, billing, CRM and email come on top.

**Can I move my app from Render to Meridian?**
Yes. Meridian builds and runs the same kind of app from your GitHub repository. Meridian's managed database is MySQL, so a PostgreSQL app switches Prisma's provider and runs its migrations once. Migration help is included on Enterprise.

### Meridian vs Fly.io

**Is Meridian cheaper than Fly.io?**
Not for hosting alone. One app with production and staging is about $45 a month on Fly.io and $69 on Meridian Lite. On Fly.io you build the rest: staging as a separate app, preview workflows, rollbacks from the command line, webhook handling and Shopify API upgrades. Meridian includes them, with support and no overage bills.

**Can I move my app from Fly.io to Meridian?**
Yes. Meridian builds and runs the same kind of app from your GitHub repository. Meridian's managed database is MySQL, so a PostgreSQL or SQLite app switches Prisma's provider and runs its migrations once. Migration help is included on Enterprise.

### Trust Center

**Where is my data hosted?**
On Google Cloud, in the EU (Belgium) by default, on every plan. On Enterprise you choose the EU or the US for each environment.

**How are databases backed up?**
Production databases are backed up daily and kept 7 days on Lite, 30 on Pro, and longer as agreed on Enterprise. Any backup can be restored, or downloaded as a standard SQL dump.

**Is the database reachable from the internet?**
No. Each database sits on a private network that only your app reaches. On Pro and Enterprise, you can give one outside system access with its own client certificate, limited to the networks you allow.

**Is there an uptime SLA?**
Yes, with Custom hosting: talk to us. Every plan can follow Meridian's live status on its public status page.

**Which sign-in protections does Meridian support?**
Two-factor authentication with an authenticator app or a passkey on every plan, roles and per-app permissions, and single sign-on with audit logs on Enterprise.

**How do I report a security vulnerability?**
Email security@the-meridian.ai. We review every report and keep you posted until it is resolved.
